Pamper & Pawsibilities: Spring Grooming

May is here, bringing warmer temperatures, blooming flowers, outdoor adventures, and plenty of shedding! As families spend more time outside, it's the perfect opportunity to make sure your pets are looking and feeling their best.

Whether your furry friend enjoys hiking local trails, playing in the backyard, or visiting the beach, regular grooming is an important part of keeping them healthy, comfortable, and happy throughout the season.

At Southern Divine Kennels Pet Grooming, we're committed to providing every pet with the highest level of Comfort, Quality, & Care.

Why Spring Grooming Matters

Spring is one of the busiest grooming seasons of the year—and for good reason.

As pets shed their winter coats, loose fur can become trapped in the coat, leading to tangles, matting, skin irritation, and hot spots. Regular grooming helps remove excess undercoat while promoting healthy skin and coat growth.

Benefits of spring grooming include:

  • Removing loose fur and undercoat

  • Reducing shedding around your home

  • Preventing painful mats and tangles

  • Improving skin and coat health

  • Helping pets stay cooler as temperatures rise

  • Allowing early detection of skin concerns, lumps, or parasites

Keeping your pet on a regular grooming schedule can make a significant difference in their overall comfort and well-being.

Summer Appointments Are Filling Fast

As we move closer to summer vacation season, spring grooming appointments begin filling quickly.

If your pet has upcoming:

  • Family vacations

  • Beach trips

  • Holiday gatherings

  • Boarding stays

  • Pet-sitting visits

Now is the perfect time to schedule ahead.

Pre-booking appointments helps maintain your pet's grooming routine while ensuring you get the dates and times that work best for your schedule.

Pet Safety Reminder: Hot Pavement & Hot Sand

As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that surfaces can become much hotter than the surrounding air temperature.

Sidewalks, asphalt, parking lots, and even beach sand can quickly become dangerous for your pet's paws.

For our coastal clients in Southport and Oak Island, hot sand is often overlooked but can cause burns just as easily as pavement.

A simple test:

Place the back of your hand on the surface for seven seconds. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

To help keep pets safe:

  • Walk during cooler morning or evening hours

  • Stay on grassy areas whenever possible

  • Be mindful of hot beach sand during midday hours

  • Provide plenty of fresh water during outdoor activities

  • Watch for signs of discomfort or paw sensitivity

A little extra caution can help prevent painful paw injuries during the warmer months.
